Its NOVEMBER!
November means a lot of things--Thanksgiving (and we have a lot to be thankful for this year), elections, chilly weather (which necessitates me building a fire in the fire place, a touch to make things feel a bit cozier), and Christmas tunes. Unlike at 20 Sexton Dr., where Christmas tunes came out on the day before Thanksgiving when my Mom and Dad were making food for Thanksgiving, in my house (under MY ROOF, I still don't get why owning a roof gives you the right to determine the rules of a house hold), November 1st means it is time to bust out the Christmas tunes.
As we get ready for the holidays, I just can't help but be excited to see Isaac Anthony do some of the traditional holiday things. He may even be eating solid food enough to have a bit of turkey (actually, realistically, I am hoping for some mashed potatoes) at Thanksgiving. I can't even wait for...OMG...going holiday shopping as I will now have something to do other than wander around and play on my iPhone while Mom searches for things. We may need to re-institute the Sculimbrene tradition of touring communities for Christmas lights. I am sure Isaac Anthony will love that, as he likes being in a car and likes bright lights.
The election is tonight and I, for one, am glad the campaigns are over. For whatever reason, maybe it was the vicious backstabbing involved in the Governor's race here in Massachusetts or the stupidity of the Citizens United decision, the election season seemed so much dirtier this time around. Each year I am stunned at how little media coverage normal people get. Normal people saying normal things with good ideas, a recognition that the fundamental lesson of politics is compromise, and the willingness to work hard just don't seem to be interesting to the media. Instead we get coverage of "I'm not a witch". By the way, how did we, as a country, go from "We the People" and "Four Score and Seven Years ago" to "I am not a witch"? Thomas Jefferson would be shocked at the stupidity of some of the candidates running this year. Shocked. Either way, Isaac Anthony, Mom and Dad will put on the Baby Bjorn and go vote tonight.
Ah...November.
