Thanks Going, Its Just an Expression...
There are few things in the world funnier than when I little kid says something that sounds like what an adult would say. Kids tend to pick up very well on tone and context, but the exact words can be difficult. In this case, Isaac combined two phrases in a hilarious mish mash. The first phrase is "thanks a lot" and the second is "nice going." Put together in his brain you get: "Thanks going." But it goes deeper than that. He understands what that means. When I asked him what "Thanks going" means he told me it means "NOT thanks going." It is an expression.
Its even funnier than that though because he recently used the phrase "that's just an expression." We were playing and he bonked his toe, a really good stub, and he turns to me and says: "I need a band aid." I told him he wasn't bleeding and then he turned me to me and said...wait for it...: "Its just an expression, Dad." It was very hard, very, very hard not to die from laughter at that point.
Finally, we have what happened in the car last weekend. We were riding home and I said something he did not like hearing and then, mimicking me perfectly he said: "Seriously..." and then he giggled.
Language is such a cool thing and watching a kid master it is just about the most awesome thing ever.
Seriously.
