In search of Sasquatch
This past weekend was a beautiful two day vacation. Weather was perfect, Isaac was happy, all was right with the world. We decided to take advantage of our luck and see if we could find that most elusive of cryptozoological creatures--Bigfoot, a.k.a. Sasquatch, a.k.a. Skunk Ape. Dad has long been fascinated by the yet-to-be discovered primate of North America, reading all of the books in the Xenia library on the subject many, many times. Not just crackpots like Bigfoot. Jane Goodall thinks there is a possibility of a Bigfoot being out there. Teddy Roosevelt even had a Bigfoot encounter. There is the famous Patterson-Gimlin footage of Bigfoot taken in Northern California.
To further our luck we went to one of the few places around us that has had confirmed Bigfoot sightings--Leominster State Forest (which happens to be right down the road). It is a pretty big place, 4300 square acres of wilderness, and right next to a dump which allows our furry friend to forage for food (hows that for alliteration?). Here is a bit more on the LSF Bigfoot sighting (there is even video from the Animal Planet special done on the sighting).
Here we are going over the quick "Bigfoot checklist" Dad cobbled together from such illustrious science-based sight as the aforementioned Crytomundo and the highly prestigious BFRO:
And here we are in the beast's territory looking for signs and, of course, dealing with the household Scully (as in Scully from the X-Files)--Mom:
There is a point at which skepticism becomes nay saying and Isaac and I agree Mom has reached that point. One day, when they have proof, Mom and her science-loving brain will have to adapt to a world with Bigfoot. For now, Isaac and Dad are ready and waiting...
