Cousins
Today was a glorious spring day--Isaac was in a good mood, the sky was sapphire blue to match his eyes, and Domenic, Myles and Colby came up to play (Erica was, unfortunately unavailable as she was at a crafts show in Newport selling wares to filthy rich people). We had a very busy, but great time. It is hard to put into words just how cute all three of them are together. Myles and Colby are great with their little cousin. Funny thing, Colby, as a two year old, is amazingly gentle, despite the fact that he could definitely compete in the baby version of World's Strongest Man competition and two year olds aren't exactly known for their deft touch. Here is a picture of the two of them being cute as can be:

We played inside for a while, mostly with Duplos and the Go-Crate. Again, both boys were fantastic with Isaac. Here are two videos, one of Myles and then one of Colby giving their little cousin a ride in the Go-Crate:
Then Colby:
Myles and I went down to the workshop for a bit, playing with flashlights in the dark and then, after that, using the drill press I taught him the #1 lesson for working around tools--always wear your safety glasses. We drilled a bunch of holes together and it was a preview, I hope, of Isaac and I in the workshop. I am really looking forward to that.
After that, we ate lunch and then went on a hike. We marched down to the St. Bernard Cemetery marveling at how the trees grew through the wrought iron fence, spreading it apart, and then past the headstones. It was very hard to explain to a two year old and a four year old why you shouldn't touch the stuff on a grave. After that we made our way down to the St. Bernard track and then we played on the football field for about two hours. The grass was so soft it was like a carpeted bed. Isaac rolled around in the grass while Myles and Colby wrestled with Domenic and I. Myles is the beanpole while Colby is the bull. I asked Domenic how old Myles was when we went to the Long Island wedding and he was a little older than Colby is now. And yet, having carried Myles to and from the shark tank for four hours during the reception I can honestly say that his little bro is ginormous by comparison. It is amazing how sturdy Colby is...
...I have this fantasy where Isaac goes to the Goddard School and all the kids that stole his toys and pushed him over are introduced, "Italian-style", to his big, protective, older cousin Colby. Myles could never pass as a smaller kid, but Colby just might.
It was a great day with the cousins.
